Description

Our flagship course gives you a comprehensive grounding in the profession of charity work. Curated by experts from across the sector, you’ll join a network of talented professionals who are committed to building a progressive sector. Together you’ll study the key principles of creating social impact and get practical experience to get into the charity sector.

The course kicks off with a Careers Bootcamp where you can meet your fellow learners and hear inspiring talks from a range of sector experts. We’ll also catch up with previous Charity Fast-Trackers who’ll be on hand to share their journeys and welcome you to our network.

Learn how the third-sector works

Logging into our award-winning Canvas LMS learning platform, you’ll access 5 theory modules and one practical challenge; these make up the course you’ll be assessed on.

Core Module Themes:

Get Practical Experience for your CV

At the heart of this learning is a practical fundraising challenge. Our partners at international development charity Child.org subsidise your learning experience. In return, you’ll lead a team of volunteers to raise vital funds so that they can continue to change and save the lives of children in Kenya and Sierra Leone.

Through this you’ll showcase practical skills in volunteer management, charity communication and project design. You’ll have a record of creating social impact on your CV, and you’ll have a great time doing it.  Since 2015 Charity Fast-Trackers have raised over £300,000 between them; we’re excited for you to join us.

Unlock Content as You Go

For every Charity Fast-Tracker who completes the 5 theory modules plus their fundraising challenge, we’ll provide a bonus module of dedicated careers support, available to access for 6 months from the end of the course. This is our way of investing in the best, most dedicated talent.

Our partners at Child.org and from across the sector are looking to hire the best talent; we’ll share these opportunities and help you plan your next steps together.

We’ve designed Charity Fast-Track: Foundation to fit in around life’s other challenges. Our course content is available wherever you are through the Canvas Student mobile app, so you can plan your career in social change whenever suits you best.

This year we’ve labelled all of our content with average reading times, so you can balance your study. For those of you who want to ask questions or deep dive on topics, our course discussions are an opportunity to exchange ideas and get inspired. Most importantly, our team are always here to make sure your learning experience is a positive one

The e-learning platform is very mobile-friendly and we provide a clear indication of time required for each module, so you can fit the course into your own busy schedule.

How much time do I need to complete the course?

We understand how busy life can get: the course is designed to fit around you. Everyone is different when it comes to learning styles: you may want to deep-dive on certain topics, take time to reflect on others, or it may be that the group discussions are where you benefit most: it’s your call. We recommend that to get the most out of the content it you should spend around 4 hours a week, but it is possible to complete the course more quickly if you wish. To help you plan your learning we place estimated reading times next to all of our units.

Is this course suitable for me?

This course is right for you if you’re looking to:

> discover more about charity careers and what it takes to make a difference

> understand how to secure a job in charity

> learn to be effective quickly and fast-track your career progression

> join a growing network of progressive charity professionals

What is Bootcamp?

Bootcamp is a day of workshops, talks and shared connections, aimed at helping you launch your charity career with the right focus. We offer this as an additional extra because we know what an impact it makes to everyone who attends. You’ll meet fellow learners, Charity Fast-Track graduates, plus experts from around the sector. It’s also a chance to get to know Child.org and what makes their work so special.

When and Where is Bootcamp?

We run Bootcamp around two weeks after the course launch date, hosted at Cahoots, Charity Fast-Track’s headquarters in London.

For our February 2019 course Bootcamp will be held on Saturday February 22nd. For those not able to attend in person, we’ll be looking to record key parts of the day and, we hope, offer a livestream facility.

Why is this course so cheap?

We want to create a sector that welcomes all talents. This course costs £250. We are able to offer this incredible discount because it is generously subsidised by our course partner: Child.org.

What is the fundraising challenge?

At the heart of the course is a practical fundraising challenge. Our partners at international development charity Child.org subsidise your learning experience. In return, you’ll lead a team of volunteers in a fundraising challenge to raise vital funds so that they can continue to change and save the lives of children in Kenya and Sierra Leone.

Through this you’ll showcase practical skills in volunteer management, charity communication and project design. You’ll have a record of creating social impact on your CV, and you’ll have a great time doing it. Since 2015 Charity Fast-Trackers have raised over £300,000 between them.

How will the fundraising aspect be supported?

We know some people worry about fundraising, so our team supports you through every step, including:

> Our Plan Your Fundraising Challenge module will help you plan in clear, practical steps
> Our How Charities Make Money module will help you understand the wider context of income generation within charities
> Professional expertise from Child.org, who’ve been working with Fast-Trackers since 2015
> Mentoring from graduates of Charity Fast-Track, including current fundraising professionals, who will join us on the learning platform and at Bootcamp
> Extra optional content: Excel At Your Fundraising Challenge module is here for anyone who wants to deep dive, with supporter journey mapping, comms advice, and more.
> Peer discussions around your challenge through our learning platform
> A chance to speak with fundraising professionals at Bootcamp

How is the course assessed?

We’ve designed our assessment process to help you learn and progress. Our sector needs thoughtful, motivated professionals, not exam-passing machines. We assess your learning in three ways:

1) Quick quizzes
At the end of each of the 5 core modules you’ll be given a quiz based on the content you’ve worked through. We provide lots of external links and extra content during the course for people with the time and curiosity to deep-dive into subjects, but those parts aren’t on the test. All of the questions relate to content from _within_ the learning platform.

2) Practical tasks
During the course we’ll ask you to complete a small number of practical tasks. These ask you to demonstrate skills or behaviours you’ll find valuable when working in the charity sector, and include tasks to help you plan your fundraising challenge to a professional standard. Alongside each task is a clear and simple mark scheme that shows you what we’re looking for.

3) Completing the fundraising challenge
Income generation is a central pillar to the way all charities operate, and all careers in our sector demand professionals who can deliver a project on time. Whilst the date of your fundraising challenge can take place after you’ve finished the course, we do expect you to have completed your planning tasks, recruited your team, and hit your fundraising target of £500 by the end of 12 weeks.

Can I just do specific elements of this course to boost my skills in one area?

We are considering offering stand-alone modules. You can pre-order these modules or subscribe to be notified when they become available.

What happened to Charity Apprentice?

The old 10 month course has been streamlined and re-branded as Charity Fast-Track. Our new flagship Foundation Course is still supported by Child.org and is much shorter and more focused. We will be developing variations to suit different time commitments and to allow more people to boost their skills at various points throughout their careers.

Can I study with you if I’m not based in the UK?

We have a track record of working with learners based anywhere in the world. Our content and expertise is drawn from the UK charity and social sectors, but much of the learning is applicable in other contexts. The course is delivered online.

Is there a difference between learning about charities, NGOs, non-profits, or the third sector? Will my learning being applicable for working in all of these?

Social change organisations use a variety of terms to describe themselves and the sectors they operate in, many of which are interchangeable.

Our course focuses on careers in UK-based not for profits, including organisations with international programmes. Whilst the majority of these are charities, increasingly we see an overlap with social enterprise models, and that is reflected in our content.
